Odessa. House of Scientists
Odessa. House of Scientists
For those who do not know the city of Odessa, I must explain some things.
The district of Kotovsky is located quite far from the city centre and is a multi-storey building.
I am, who grew up in a real courtyard with trees and attics, was a little uncomfortable to imagine how our children would grow up in such an inhuman space. Such settlements with multi-storey skyscrapers are not created for people accustomed to ancient architecture and urban comfort. I thought this architecture could affect the development of our children.
When our Rada was 6 years old, I enrolled her in English language courses, which were located in a very beautiful building of the House of Scientists, in the historical centre of Odessa. It was a very correct step.
Rada's teacher was the wonderful Inna Semyonovna, who not only taught children the language but also organized a real children's English theatre on her own initiative. The theatre performances were amazing. I helped Inna Semyonovna and painted backdrops for the stage for performances, I also made costumes for children. Inna Semyonovna felt children very subtly, and this sometimes caused real tears of affection.
I will never forget the performance in which the light suddenly went out and my Radochka began to sing a lullaby in such a heartfelt voice that tears began to flow. I had no idea that she could sing.
Our trips to the House of Scientists were a feat for me - now I will explain why. In the morning I took children to kindergarten, then I went to work in the city by bus. The trip took almost an hour one way. After working until lunchtime, I returned back to the village, picked up the children and took both girls to the city for classes. We returned home in an hour. This happened three times a week. But it was definitely worth our efforts.
