African Nature. Termites.

Image
Termites When you first get to the endless plains of the Serengeti in Tanzania, the first thing that starts to attract your attention is the termite mounds. These majestic structures, similar to the buildings of aliens, willy-nilly make you reflect on the life of a multimillion community. There are almost three thousand species of termites in the world. Contrary to popular belief, termites are closely related to cockroaches, not ants. Worker termites are virtually blind - their eyes are either rudimentary or completely absent. Reproductive termites, on the other hand, see very well. The termites responsible for reproduction have wings, but they use them only once in a lifetime, after which the wings are discarded as unnecessary. Ancient termites, including representatives of now extinct species, are often found in amber. Termites live on all continents except Antarctica. The number of one termite colony can reach several million individuals. A mature termite queen lays up to several th

African Legends. African Queens. Empress of Ethiopia, Candice

Image
Empress of Ethiopia, Candice. Alexander the Great Makedonsky reached Kemet (Ancient Egypt) in 332 BC. e. during his frantic takeover of the whole world. And then, one of the greatest generals of the ancient world was stopped by the  Empress of Ethiopia . This formidable Queen, Candice was renowned for her fame as a military tactician and warlord. There is a special story that is still passed on by word of mouth. They say that she was blind in one eye, having lost it in the battle with the Romans. She was known as a fierce, tactical and unifying leader. Alexander reached Kemet and prepared for battle in Ethiopia. Alexander was too scared to fight Candice's army, and here's why. Chancellor Williams, who wrote in his book The Destruction of a Black Civilization, said that upon hearing about the approach of Alexander the Great's army, Empress Candace gathered her troops, lined them up with her through the first cataract, and placed a throne on top of two African elephants and w

The start of the Championship. Organization of games

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJgq3xecB74 The championship came to our city along with the mischievous and deafening sounds of vuvuzel - long pipes emitting a twang and bright South African symbols in everything, in flags, T-shirts, caps and other attributes. We got into only one match and it was indicative for me. Ask what? I will answer in organizing a huge crowd that had to get to the stadium and then leave from there. Cape Town is a city of light transport and despite the fact that the roads are probably the best in the world and the longest, it was difficult for me to imagine how parking will be available to everyone. But it turned out like this: Long before the start, it was announced that it would be impossible to get directly to the stadium by personal transport. In different districts of Cape Town, additional parking lots were arranged in which the townspeople left their cars. There they were waited by buses on which people were taken free of

June - 2010. FIFA World Cup. Cape Town Stadium.

We knew for a long time that the 2010 FIFA World Cup will take place in South Africa, and at that time Benjamin was already born, his dad Greg said that Bene will be 4 years old when that day comes. And the day has come. Long before the start, Cape Town was diligently preparing for the holding, they began urgently to finish building on the site of the old stadium on Green Ponte New, as well as build new road junctions and improve the area next to the stadium. It was grandiose, but personally, I was already beginning to get nervous, it seemed to me that the work on organizing the space around the stadium itself was going very slowly and they would not have time to complete them by the beginning of the championship. Oh, this African habit of not rushing anywhere! In 33 months, contractors for the Murray & Roberts joint venture, now known as Concor and WBHO, completed the R4.4 billion project, or approximately US $ 600 million. Cape Town Stadium was built to host football and rugby ma

Evening on the Sea Point Promenade.

Evening on the Sea Point Promenade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njmOYo-cymI Hiking along the Atlantic coast will forever remain in my soul and my memory. Radu and I walked every day, mostly together, but sometimes the children Charlotte and Benjamin joined us. It was so beautiful. Sometime later, for reasons beyond our control, we moved out of our apartments on Fresnaye and came here to Sea Point Promenade to return these feelings again. But no, it didn't work that way. In Cape Town, houses do not have heating at all, it is not customary to heat apartments here in winter, so on sunny days, it is much warmer outside than in houses.d every day - this is a must. May in Cape Town is the eve of winter and the coast pleases us with foam holidays, the ocean splashes onto the shore whole mountains of foam that resemble snow. The snow is not dense, but tender and trembling from the fact that it has to pretend! Millions of my non-friends, seagulls, bask in the rays of a very warm sun. In
