The Old Biscuit Mill, Cape Town, 2008

Image
Interactive action on The Old Biscuit Mill ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvo3OntmzJ4 There are many markets in Cape Town, but they are mostly open on weekends. The market is not only an opportunity to purchase products, but it is also mainly a place for communication and socialization. And my favorite market is of course Old Biscuit Mill. It appeared in Cape Town recently, just a few years before my story. Before becoming a modern, dynamic and creative hub, it was a true biscuit mill by Pyott. John Piott opened the plant in the early 1900s and it remained in operation until 1946. After I became a tour guide, I will talk about this later, I brought all my tourists here if they got to Cape Town on Saturday. The market is open only on Saturdays and there you can eat the most incredibly delicious West Coast oysters at 8 o'clock in the morning, washed down with a glass of Bubbles - light sparkling wine! Now let's get back to the action we organized with my daughter Rada. B

Cape Town. Seeing off the sun.

Seeing off the sun. Our daughter Rada introduced us to a new, very unusually beautiful tradition that exists in Cape Town. Imagine a stunning sunset by the ocean, this is probably the most exciting action that a person can watch every evening, regardless of the weather. There are many beaches in Cape Town and I will tell you about all of them, but this time we got to Noordhoek Beach . We could not even think then that this beach would become so dear and close in a few years. So about tradition- In Cape Town, it is customary to come to the ocean and watch the sun go down, while taking with you a bottle of champagne or wine and light snacks. All this is called SUNDOWN. Sometimes, addicted to this action, men, without reaching the shore, begin to eat and drink champagne right in the office after work. In the photographs, we are on the beach of Noordhoek where Rada brought a group of tourists with us, she at that time already began to work in this field. Проводы солнца. Наша дочь Рада поз

Cape Town. Khirstenbosch National Park

Image
Kirstenbosch Park - first I will tell you a few historical facts about one of the amazing parks in Cape Town, but I can say the most wonderful park in Africa !! You probably know that Cape Town is the first city in South Africa founded by Europeans in 1562. In 1660, by order of the Dutch commander , Jan van Riebeck, a hedge of wild almonds and blackberries was planted to provide some protection around the perimeter that would become the foundation of the park itself. It is bel ieved that the name of the park comes from the name Kirsten - the name of the land manager J. F. Kirsten in the 18th century, and the second part of the name bosch is the Dutch word for "bush". The Extin family acquired the land in 1823, and later it passed into the possession of the Clete family It was under their leadership that the area was cultivated more formally, planted with oaks, fruit trees and vineyards. The land was then purchased by Cecil Rhodes in 1895. The famous Camphor Avenue was founde

Cape Town. Pleinair "Sea Ocean" at Misty Cliff.

Cape Town. Pleinair "Sea Ocean" at Misty Cliff. Of course, our daughter Rada was aware of all the events that took place in the gallery, but at that time there was no Facebook yet and we shared the details on the spot. I told Rada about our Ocean Sea project and how incredibly magical it is to create paintings at night in the port on huge formats. And Rada, in turn, showed us another extraordinary place in Cape Town called Misty Cliff. When anyone who comes to Cape Town comes h ere and sees this miracle for the first time, he involuntarily screams out in surprise. Imagine a sunny day, you are in Africa and suddenly, something incredible opens up to your eyes, it seems to you that you see snow-white snow that covers the ocean coast. Absolute white sand and dark green slopes covered with an undersized shrub called Feinbos. It was in this place that we decided to work with Rada. We bought a lot of canvases and decided to arrange an open-air workshop there. After loading the ca

Cape Town, Jewel Africa

Image
Cape Town, Jewel Africa The second surprise on this unforgettable day was a visit to the Jewelry Factory and I will tell you that it was something indescribable. In my life, I paid very little attention to precious stones, I loved jewelry, especially author's and not very expensive ones. During my time at the Art College, I dressed up in a wide variety of beads, very often borrowing them from my friends. I did not know what diamonds were and did not feel anything towards them. Once in the showroom of the factory, I came into indescribable delight and this first impression I have remembered for my whole life. I understood why people value diamonds so much and I will tell you now - the shine and play of light of these incredible stones create an incredible state of happiness! It became clear to me why people want these magic stones. Later, I became much closer to this topic and I will also tell you about it, but today I will only add that upon returning home, when Rada's husband

Cape Town. Table Mountain

Image
Table mountain Climbing Table Mountain is a must-have travel brand for everyone visiting Cape Town. And most importantly, the mountain is open for visits for about 90 days a year.  Why do you ask?  Yes, because the city, located on the very edge of the African continent, is very often blown by powerful winds and it is not possible to get to the mountain.  We were lucky and this time our first ascent to the mountain took place.  Table Mountain is 1,087 meters high and is part of a sce nic mountain range of the peninsula that stretches from Signal Hill in the north to Cape Point in the south.  The Table mountain consists of the mountain itself, which was named the table because it is completely flat and looks like a table. There are many beautiful valleys, bays, and beaches around it, connected by the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the warm waters of the False Bay in the east. It is part of the World Heritage Site for its unique flora and fauna. The sandy plains at the

2007 New Year - we fly to Cape Town!

2007 ended at the Maritime Art Gallery and, as usual, I publish for you a video of this year's events, guests and exhibitions. And we are already heading to Cape Town in our thoughts and desires! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4fI9bsVVDI 2007 New Year - we fly to Cape Town! After such a beautiful and bright window to another world appeared in our life, everything changed. Our life in Odessa, despite all the holidays that we arranged, turned into gray everyday life and impatien t waiting for the time when it was possible to get on a plane and wake up on the other side of the world, in South Africa! Cape Town has become for me personally, a well of life-giving energy. A month spent in this wonderful city filled me with new creative energy for a whole year! One day after arriving in Cape Town, our daughter Rada made us two surprises. The first is a visit to Table Mountain, the second surprise was a visit to the Diamond Factory. When I returned home, I could not accurately describe w
