Friday news from Limassol. End of November, 2023

This week winter has come to us, or you can say autumn. There were thunderstorms and I thought that after that the water in the sea would get colder and I would no longer be able to swim. But that’s not true. Yes, it was cold, there was a strong storm at sea, a storm of such force that the waves threw huge boulders onto the shore, measuring much larger than a fist. The waves covered all the footpaths with a thick layer of black sand.   But a couple of days passed and Georgiy and I went to the beach on Wednesday and swam. For me, this is a huge bonus – one might say a reward for all the moral suffering caused by the situation in Ukraine. At the Sifood Restaurant, things are quietly moving forward. The name is registered, the sign is installed, and permitting documents will be ready soon. And Sylvia works tirelessly, inventing new dishes for takeaway sales, and has already got her first clients. And Radu and I are very lucky because our Georgiy wants and spends a lot of time with us. And

Cape Town. Mothers Day. 2019.

We all used to celebrate Women’s Day on March 8th. Maybe someone else is still noticing. But in our holidays, in the traditions imposed on us by the Soviet Union and the evil empire, there was no day when we remembered our mothers and celebrated Mother’s Day with our children, but this is so important. Our Rada loves to organize holidays and this time also invited its friends to visit. Here in South Africa they have their own traditions and all parties and festive tables do not fall on the shoulders of the inviting party; on the contrary, all guests come with their own treats. So this time, the girls gathered. And each of them brought her own delicacies, and Rada and I, it seems to me, prepared an Olivier salad. Charlotte prepared a painting for her mother as a gift; my lessons were not in vain. Кейптаун. День матері. 2019. Раніше ми всі відзначали жіночий день 8 березня. Можливо хтось ще й зараз зазначає. Але в наших святах, у традиціях нав’язаних нам совком та імперією зла не було дн

Maybe this is because many cultures, African and European, merge here in an embrace, or maybe it comes from the fact that, unlike Johannesburg, where all the money of South Africa is located, due to the diamond and gold mines, in Cape Town difficult to find a job. People have to invent crafts and I think that’s what creates a great creative atmosphere.   And I, of course, being in the most beloved environment for me, work myself and also give myself to my grandchildren with great love. Charlotte and I are engaged in painting and are also working on creating a dollhouse, similar to what we made in Odesa with Marcel. What happiness it is when your loved ones need you and you need to enjoy these moments with all your heart. Арт у Нордоку. Ви собі не уявляєте, наскільки креативним є за своєю суттю Кейптаун. Можливо це від того, що тут зливаються в обіймах безліч к

Sea Point Art Gallery and meeting Debbie! Spring 2019

Image
I have already told you about the attitude towards artists in Cape Town galleries. To me they were a little snobbish. When we had the Maritime Art Gallery In Odesa, and not only that but also the Na Uyutnaya Gallery, we were happy to present to our art admirers the works of artists from other countries.   But in Cape Town this is not possible. All gallery owners are puffed up like turkeys and don’t want to communicate or even look at the work of an artist from another country.   But I was very, very lucky to meet the wonderful Debbie Grewe and her gallery in Sea Point. Debbie is an artist herself and has amassed a beautiful and unique collection of work by true African artists. And I am happy that almost before the gallery was completed, my works were presented in it. There were a lot of sales, there were orders. And in the photo that I will show you, there are my Blue Elephants and, which currently occupy a place of honor at the Exhibition of works by South African artists “Ninety One

2019. Cape Town. Life. While Ben is busy with private lessons. Cafe.

While Benjamin is studying with the teacher, my daughter Rada, my granddaughter Charlotte, and I are sitting in a wonderful cafe. Cape Town has a lot of incredibly interesting and delicious establishments. But this cafe amazed me with one discovery – in the women’s restroom, I absolutely unexpectedly saw a poster for the exhibition of my friend, the now-deceased, American artist Shimon Okshtein. Senya and I studied at the Art School in Odessa and were on friendly terms, which I already talked about in my stories, before he left for the USA.
