The decision of the Head of Odesa Port N.P. Pavlyuk on moving the Maritime Art Gallery gallery to the port
In the summer, Nikolai Panteleimonovich Pavlyuk invited us to his office, through Vilensky, with an offer that we had long been waiting for - to transfer the Maritime gallery to the Sea Terminal. We came and began to consider the possibility of location. I went downstairs to a room occupied by lockers in which employees left clothes, a room without windows and with a very low ceiling, then I told Nikolai Panteleimonovich that if the port wants to have a gallery, then it is necessary to build it at the highest European level. Probably, it was then that the decision was made to build a gallery next to the construction of the yacht complex that had already begun. But then it was impossible to imagine what a wonderful platform our Marine Gallery would receive.
A dream begins to come true
Having returned from Brug, we started to work, and once a telephone rang in the gallery, Oleg Stashkevich spoke and on behalf of Nikolai Panteleimonovich invited us to a meeting. At the meeting, he showed us preliminary drawings in which a place for the gallery was determined and then we were asked the question, how many floors do we want one or two? Of course, I vaguely imagined how everything would turn out, but I was not taken aback and said how one, of course, the same two.
After that, we were introduced to the architect performing this task of the port, he was Vladimir Kalinin. So with him, we began to discuss all the details of the future art temple.
Of course, until the very moment when we crossed the threshold of the gallery, we spent many sleepless nights, different and incomprehensible movements took place around us, and it was very difficult to believe that using the idea, we would simply be thrown overboard.
But Nikolai Panteleimonovich remained true to his decision and soon, namely on May 30, 1998, the Maritime Gallery found a new life, becoming a gallery of the Odesa port.
Exhibitions in the gallery on Primorsky Boulevard continued to take their course, but we already knew that very soon, but we did not really believe in it, we would move to the Sea Terminal.
It was then that Nikolai Panteleimonovich asked me if I was ready to go to work at the port and become a postwoman? He certainly, as a very wise person, imagined how big the difference was between being a free artist and a free gallery owner and becoming a subordinate in a state enterprise. But I, understanding the scale of the building under construction, could not help but be a patriot of my business and the work of my family’s life. I agreed…
