Image
Olena Kayinska “When we left the house, we knew that we would not turn back, because there would be no where. We tied up cows and horses and released them near the forest. We asked cats for food, stroked the swallows of the sun, chopped apples and plums, buried wells, and burned pillows. We ...

8 of December, 2024. My Achievements. Dualingo

My achievements! Yesterday marked a year of my Greek studies, namely a year of my work with Duolingo! I haven't started speaking yet, but I've started to understand a lot of words on the radio. There's no communication or environment, so for now, online classes!

Life in forced displacement. Akrounta. Cicada – my painting.

Image
In Akrounta, of course, I am writing a work dedicated to Cicadas. I have not yet told you about the only neighbors who live in close proximity to our house. This is a real Cypriot family, the head of which is Nikos. He is a professional soldier. His wife’s name is Kula and she is so beautiful. A real image of a Greek woman from the Fayum portraits. I still dream of painting her portrait. But she is not interested. I painted Nikos’ portrait and it was to him that I gave my Cicada. I wanted to thank Nikos for his support and help in our first months of life in Akrounta!

Friday news from Limassol. December 2024.

https://www.facebook.com/1266729202/videos/pcb.1726560861460478/1597906204168301 Hello everyone! If you think that winter has come to us, then you are deeply mistaken. Winter, that is, the cold was only a few days, and then wonderful weather returned to us with a pleasant air temperature of 19-20 degrees Celsius. And without rain. And in Limassol, lemons and tangerines are calmly yielding a harvest. It seems that we should get used to the fact that orange trees grow on the sidewalks next to the roadway, the fruits of which fall to the ground, but so far, of course, it is amazing! I made a video especially for you! I will also tell you about my new culinary discovery! First, a little background. In Cyprus, unlike other countries where I have been and where people love dill, and it is sold in small bunches, here it is sold in a whole armful. So huge that it is impossible to use it all. I always felt sorry when I had to throw it away. I decided to try and make dill pancakes, so to speak. ...

Our new life in Akrounta. June, 2022

Image
https://www.facebook.com/groups/461052681344642/posts/1725912444858653/ o we moved in and our life on the mountain began. Silvia and Kostya spent whole days at work, and we were busy with the house and the children. The peculiarities of life in a house on the mountain boiled down to the fact that you can’t walk there. Maybe just around the territory. It was possible to go down to the village from the mountain, but for me personally, it was practically impossible to go back up. There was only a small kiosk in the village, so all the food had to be bought in the city. It’s not that far to Limassol by car, it only takes 10-20 minutes, but it’s impossible to walk there. In any case, the situation there, far from the noise of the city, was much calmer and we did not see or hear our Russian enemies every day. We closed ourselves off in our own world. http://binovskaya.com/life-in-cyprus-akrunta-village-and.../   http://binovskaya.com/13337-2/ http://binovskaya.com/odessa-2022-afte...

Life in Immigration. Cicada’s House. 2022

Image
http://binovskaya.com/life-in-acrounta-cyprus-cicadas/ Yes, of course, getting to know the plants of this region and its inhabitants was very interesting and informative. We made discoveries. But getting to know the cicadas brought us a lot of joy. They sang and sang so loudly that it was impossible to hear each other. In addition, our Luna frolicked, having caught one of the cicadas and joyfully ran around the yard, pressing it a little with her teeth – and the cicada broke through and sang without stopping. We decided that now our life would be very closely connected with these insects, but we did not know anything about them. Sylvia registered our house on Google Maps and called it Cicada House. The name remained, but the cicadas disappeared, they went underground and will now appear here in 13-17 years. Read about the features of these incredible animals by clicking on my link. ...

Life on forced displacement. Animals and insects in Akrounta. 2022

https://www.facebook.com/groups/461052681344642/posts/1724035895046308/ Summer is in full swing, there are no classes at school, the boys and I are at home, and around us is the nature of Cyprus and its inhabitants. Theo loves lizards and is lucky with this since many of them live in the rocks surrounding the house. Unfortunately, the one that the boys caught dropped its tail, but we all know that it will soon grow back. A small mountain river flows down in the village and in the evenings we hear the croaking of frogs, or rather toads, and soon they began to visit us. Praying mantises, flies, mosquitoes, midges and other insects unknown to us densely populated the new world for us. At first, we were not used to them, did not use protective equipment, for which we soon paid dearly. Sylvia suffered especially, her legs were so bitten that she was ashamed to go to work. We know what mosquitoes are, but we had no idea about midges, and they turned out to be the most bloodthirsty. We even h...

Friday news from Limassol. Sifood Restaurant. December 2024

Monday is a day off at the restaurant. But not really a day off – the employees are resting. Our Sylvia works tirelessly. And we are there to help her. We came to paint the wall in the lobby, the wall on which Sylvia writes the menu with chalk. We updated the exposition of my paintings and added a series of my exotic fruits. And also, in order not to paint the entire wall in the hall, in the place where the paint came off, I painted a small octopus that is crawling out … At lunch, Radu and I tried a new dish from the chef – Bouillabaisse soup and it was delicious. Take my word for it, I have never eaten such a delicious soup before! Bouillabaisse, bouillabaisse, bouille-abesse, bouillabaisse (“Marseille fish soup”; French bouillabaisse, Ox. Bolhabaissa) is a dish of French cuisine, a multi-component fish soup, typical for the Mediterranean coast of France. It is an original Provencal fish soup, most common in Marseille. Initially, this dish was common among fishermen and was prepared f...

Akrounta. The beauty of the view. 2022 Cyprus

Image
The house we moved into is not quite suitable for living. It has a huge living room with high ceilings supported by wooden beams and that's it. For our family, three bedrooms and two bathrooms were not enough. Our boys slept right in the hall at first. The most attractive place in the house was the terrace with a stunning view of the mountains and the village below. The house is on a hill and we could enjoy sunrises and sunsets and of course the vast night sky. Radu and I lived with Silvia's family for a long year and then moved to separate housing.
