San Francisco, Ira Evangelidi

Image
San Francisco, Ira Evangelidi Those who have been with me from the very beginning of my stories probably remember my wonderful friend Irochka Evangelidi, who emigrated to the United States in the early 1990s. Irina now lives in San Francisco. Before our trip to Los Angeles, I contacted her and she, together with her husband Yura Rosengurd, decided to buy me a plane ticket. On one of the days, I flew to visit them. Ira and Jura were always an example for me to follow. Fine artist s - Ira, an unsurpassed ceramist, Jura - a theater artist in America, became programmers. Honestly, I can’t imagine how the artist’s consciousness and perception can squeeze his mind into the clear science of programming and make it his profession! I was happy to meet Ira and Yura after almost 20 years of our separation. Despite the busyness, Ira and Jura and the entire Evangelidi family gave me a lot of attention and their time. At that time, I did not know anything about jet lag, and how strange it wa...

USA, Los Angeles. Meeting at the Italian Cultural Center. As I already told you, the main goal of our trip was the desire of the US government to show us how peaceful Americans are, and we, in turn, in gratitude to such grace, should have carried this idea to the masses. One day we were invited to a meeting at the Italian Cultural Center, the meeting was arranged for us with employees of Community Connections large organization, thanks to which we were lucky to visit the United States. A lot of people gathered at the meeting and it was noteworthy that they were of different nationalities, there were Africans and Chinese, oriental girls in hijabs, and a full international. Maybe only we Ukrainians - 10 people were all of the same nationality, but most likely there was diversity in our group.  After the speeches and presentations were made, we were invited to a light buffet, and I should notice that we were fed almost everywhere. I could have forgotten the whole story, bu...

Las Vegas

Image
Las Vegas We stayed in USA for only 10 days, and I have a whole novel of memories, which is wonderful. Today I will tell you about our decision to visit Las Vegas. At the end of the program, we talked with the host went to the capital of vice, the well-known city of Las Vegas. During this trip, I still smoked and in Los Angeles, I had problems with this - there was a ban on smoking in public places. I had to carry two packs with me, one with cigarettes, and the second like an as htray. As soon as we crossed the border of the state of Nevada, at the first technical stop, I noticed that there are ashtrays everywhere in the cafe. We entered the city late in the evening and could not help but admire the incredibly bright lights of advertisements, something we had never seen in our life! The thought came to my mind about the cost of such a holiday of life. When I got out of the air-conditioned minibus into the street, hot air blew me over, before that, from far away we had seen ...

My Food in America

Image
My Food in America For me, while traveling, the topic of nutrition remains very relevant. It happened in America. Despite the fact that we were surrounded by a huge number of restaurants, it was difficult to come up with a normal option in order to eat. Once, together with Татьяна Липтуга , director of the Literary Museums, they tried to have dinner and went to an Indian restaurant. At the port authority, someone told me that his favorite dish is Indian pancakes - pancakes. Thi s was my first experience with Indian food. The cakes were so sharp, and not only they but also the rest of the food, that we did not get any pleasure from dinner. There is fast food, I’m not used to it, and with undisguised horror, I watched pictures of American life when young, very voluminous girls, with appetite, consumed turkey sandwiches the size of our enlarged bread loaf. And the turkey was actually a thin layer of meat. Once, our leaders invited us to a barbecue and it was interesting to see ...
