Cyprus Independence Day Parade

On October 1st, Cyprus marked the Independence Day of the Republic of Cyprus.
The central event of the holiday was a grand military parade, traditionally held in the capital city of Nicosia, within the Strovolos district.
The parade commenced at 11:00 AM on Iosif Hadjiosif Avenue. Prior to the ceremony, a traditional 21-gun salute echoed across the area, and admission was free for all spectators. The official military salute was received by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. The event was also attended by the Greek Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias.
Marching through the streets were units from the National Guard, police, fire service, and civil defence. This year, the parade took on an international character: for the first time, naval and amphibious landing units from allied nations—the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Egypt—joined the marching columns.
Within the mechanized column, tanks and armored personnel carriers (APCs) made their traditional appearance. Furthermore, authorities publicly showcased the latest addition to the Cypriot air defence system for the very first time—the Israeli-made Barak MX surface-to-air missile system.
A spectacular airshow unfolded in the skies over Nicosia. Residents and visitors had the opportunity to witness low-altitude flyovers by Greek F-16 Viper fighter jets and an Egyptian military maritime patrol aircraft.
