Empty Spur, also Milius's Spurge, Beautiful Spurge (lat. Euphorbia milii) - shrub, perennial plant, succulent of the family Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

The name was given in honor of Baron Pierre Bernard Milius, governor of the island of Reunion, who brought this species to France in 1821.

Empty spurge growing in Cyprus is adapted to high temperatures - it tolerates the scorching Cypriot sun quite well.

In the people, spurge was called "crown of thorns". By the way, there is an assumption that this particular plant, brought to the countries of the Middle East in time immemorial, served as a crown of thorns for Jesus Christ, and in English-speaking countries, spurge is even called the “Christ Plant” and the “Crown of Thorns.”

But everyone knows about aloe. I admired the blooming aloes in Cape Town, they are absolutely incredible there. You remember my work with our flowerbed, there are other aloes there and their flowers are not so attractive. And here I saw new and unfamiliar aloe inflorescences opposite our house and decided to show them to you.The name Aloe Vera comes from the Arabic word, “Alloeh,” which means “shining bitter substance,” while “vera” in Latin means “true.”

2000 years ago, Greek scientists considered Aloe vera a universal panacea. The Egyptians called aloe "the plant of immortality". It grows well in hot and dry climates, and many mistakenly call it a cactus, but in fact it belongs to the lily family. It retains moisture when other plants would wither, while closing its pores to prevent moisture loss. There are over 260 varieties of aloe, but the variety Aloe Barbadensis Miller is the most effective for humanity, due to its healing properties it is called Aloe Vera. George Evers discovered its ancient existence in 1862 in an Egyptian papyrus of 1500 BC. Greek and Roman doctors used it as a medicinal plant with great success. Researchers have found that ancient Chinese and Indian cultures also used aloe vera. Egyptian royalty used it in their quest for physical beauty, and in the Philippines it is used with milk to treat nephritis. Aloe vera plants are mentioned in the Bible, and legend has it that Alexander the Great conquered the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean to gain a strategic advantage by supplying aloe vera plants to treat his soldiers' battle wounds.

Молочай Міля, також Молочай Міліуса, Молочай прекрасний (лат. Euphorbia milii) - чагарник, багаторічна рослина, сукулент сімейства Молочайні (Euphorbiaceae).

Назва дано на ім'я барона П'єра Бернара Міліуса, губернатора острова Реюньйон, який завіз цей вид до Франції в 1821 р.

Молочай, що росте на Кіпрі, адаптований до високих температур — він цілком нормально переносить кіпрське сонце, що палює.

У народі молочай отримав назву «терновий вінець». До речі, існує припущення, що саме ця рослина, завезена до країн Близького Сходу ще в незапам'ятні часи, служила терновим вінцем Ісусу Христу, а в англомовних країнах молочай навіть називають «дерево Христа» — Christ Plant, «терновий вінець» — Crown of Thorns.
