Colonel Bird's bath. In fact, it turned out that Colonel Brad had built this bath and Lady Barnard had nothing to do with it. But this is a more beautiful legend! Official version. Colonel Bird's Bath is the centrepiece of the Dell Valley in which the park is located. It was built around 1811 by Colonel Christopher Bird, Undersecretary for Colonial Affairs. He built this pool in the shape of a bird (a play on his name) to collect spring water, let it stand and clarify before being sent into the house. The pool is made of Batavian type bricks and is fed by four crystal clear ice mountain springs. The paths and surroundings of the bathhouse were paved and paved with local stone by Kirstenbosch stonecutters. This bath is also known as "Lady Anne Barnard Bath", but this legend is not true.
